Overview

Meetings produce decisions and action items, but without clear ownership those outcomes often fall through the cracks. A RACI matrix solves this by mapping every task or decision to the people involved, spelling out exactly who does the work, who has final authority, who needs to be consulted before a decision is made, and who simply needs to be kept in the loop.

This tool lets you build a RACI matrix directly in your browser. Add your tasks and team members, click cells to assign roles, and get instant validation warnings if accountability is missing or duplicated. When you are finished, copy the matrix as formatted text to paste into your project documents, wikis, or collaboration tools.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent to a server.

How It Works

RACI is an acronym for the four role types you can assign to any task or decision:

R - Responsible

The person who does the work. They complete the task or deliverable. There can be multiple people responsible for a single task, but fewer is usually better.

A - Accountable

The person who owns the outcome and has final decision-making authority. There must be exactly one accountable person per task. This is the person who signs off and is answerable if things go wrong.

C - Consulted

People whose input is sought before a decision or action is taken. This is two-way communication. Their expertise or perspective is needed, and they should be actively engaged.

I - Informed

People who need to be kept up to date on progress or outcomes. This is one-way communication. They do not contribute to the decision but need to know it happened.

When to Use

A RACI matrix is most valuable when roles and responsibilities are unclear, or when a project involves multiple teams and stakeholders. Consider using one in these situations:
